Hi folks...first post...hope someone can help...story so far...

Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R mobo
Intel Q6600 quad core
psu...

thats all im using at the mo...on my table..all out of the case...

with the paper clip thing on the green and black wire of psu..psu starts up...
when i plug the 24 pin connector on the mobo...psu starts up...mobo lights light up....as soon as the cpu 4 pin connector is connected...mobo lights just flicker for half a second and psu doesnt start...

ive tried with cpu in and out...

its a new psu....cheap one....but this is the 3rd ive tried including the original..

everything looks cleaan on the mobo...joints etc...

im guessing it can only be mobo / cpu / psu... but not sure wht to try next

any help would be appreciated..

thanks

Try resetting the cmos. Remove power from board. Remove cmos battery. Attach power switch connector to motherboard and press a few times to discharge any remaining power. Then wait 5-10 minutes and reinsert battery and reconnect power and try booting up.

Sounds like a blow capacitor on the motherboard..Motherboards now days blow real easy, Usually caused by a bad psu or a ground..

nope..

tried that....same result....flicker of life on the board with the cpu 4 pin connected.... without it connected mobo lights up and psu runs...

psu...

i must admit the psu was only a cheapy alpine 650w... i5 upgrade coming for xmas...well....amazon vouchers off father christmas...so didnt wanna spend too much fixing this...but now till xmas is a long time when all you have is a user account on your daughters laptop :(

friend has a 500w ocz modular in his system ... is it worth trying that before going down a new mobo route?

can i rule out faulty cpu?

http://www.computerforum.com/209946-tech-guide-diagnosing-pc-will-not-post-start.html might be worth a read.

Take the board and CPU and RAM out of the case, rest it on a cardboard box or something or a big book, hook it up to the PSU and power switch, try to boot it up.

ive read the sticky.. doesnt really point to anything for me..

the mobo is outside the case.. just have mobo / cpu / psu on a bench.

the problem lies when the 4 pin 12v cpu plug is plugged into the board...

So hang on you've tried running it without the 12V EPS connection and it runs?

well when i say it runs... the lights on the mobo stay on...the fan on the psu runs...a case fan runs if plugged in...

with the cpu 4 pin plugged in...nothing but a small flicker of life..

ive also tried it with the cpu in and cpu out....same flicker of life..

gonna try a working ocz psu today...just to confirm 100% that its not the psu...or is...

will come back with result

thanks all

nope... no power at all with cpu 4 pin plugged in... no beeps....nuffin..

update... tried a working ocz 600w modular psu today... same result..

at least i know its not the psu...

now do i buy a mobo or cpu....

ive emailed gigabyte to see if they offer a repair service...

if anybody knows of any cheapy atx boards...socket 775 for quad core Q6600 with DDR2 and minimum 4 sata ports...

There will be tonnes of those boards around. Take the CPU out and check for bent pins. Ensure again, everything is plugged in and seated correctly.

i think the problem on your CPU (processor) or processor reader. Check up power ic that controlling processor voltage. Ensure that all capacitor working normally,
