Hi just a quick question. I am re-installing vista, I boot from disk then follow all the on screen instructions, by using the tab key, type in the validation code, which is all well and good. Then I have to mouse click in a box, which I can not do as my motherboard only has one ps2 port, I have my keyboard in that and my mouse is USB, which as you know will not work, What I would like to know is, is it ok to take out my plug and plug in a ps2 mouse while the computer is powered on. Thanks for any advice

No. You cannot replace the PS/2 keyboard with a PS/2 mouse while the computer is powered on.
I don't know why you are having an issue with your USB mouse not working during install. I've never had that issue. You could always check your BIOS and make sure Legacy USB is enabled.
thanks for your help, yes the legacy usb is enabled. all i want to do is wipe everything off my hdd and reinstall vista, i have built a few pc's but never had this problem before. although my usb mouse is plugged in there is no pointer on screen, so i cant click the accept terms at the end, the whole thing sucks : (
You know you can just hit tab until you see the outline around the box and then hit spacebar to check the box.
yep, that i have done but you cant tick the box, i think my mouse was pluged into a usb3, i have now teken it out and put it into another usb, may work
Yeah USB3 ports usually don't work without a driver so that's probably your issue.
Yep the usb 3 would not work when booted from cd. now i have a mouse. thanks for all your input
