Phenom II x4 965 or FX4100 for gaming?

Is there any GPU you would recommend? :P
Reasonably priced by the way, nothing costing £400 or something ahah xD

And thanks :D I'll just price check and see which i3 ill get!

You can better spend your money on a better gpu, a phenom 965 is still great for gaming and you'll have 30$ more for your gpu. Get at least a radeon hd6770 or hd7750.

What games would they be able to run? Are they pretty good on games like Batman Arkham Asylum and Assassin's Creed Revelations or AC3? :)

Just had a look on NT for you. I'd go for something like this http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...scards/amdhd7770series/gv-r777oc-1gd-2.0.html or this http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/...aphicscards/amdhd7770series/fx-777a-zdsc.html that's the very best you can afford by buying new. By buying used, you may get lucky and pick up a used 6870 for about £100 probably, which would be good. I got my 5870 got £100 second hand and that's better than both the 7770 and the 6870.

Wow I've never even heard of that site before, thanks :)

Eh yeah those cards should play just about any game at a decent resolution at decent settings. They're pretty good budget cards.

Novatech is where I buy all my stuff from. :) Excellent customer support too! :D

HD6870 has newer architecture, hd5870 has more raw power. But the hd7850 has both, it's 23% faster. The other 2 are almost the same.
The hd7850 also has better drivers, but it's 30 pounds more.
A phenom 2 965 with an hd7850 should perform better in games then an i3 with the hd5870/6870...

I guess I have a lot of thinking and pondering to do, but thanks so much guys!

If you would just answer one more question for me though, is there a way to utilize on board graphics? It seems a shame letting them go to waste. I'm not sure if that sounds like a stupid question or not, but I was just wondering, is there anything I can do with them, maybe to take some strain off of my graphics card or something? :S

Thanks for everything again guys :D

The onboard graphics are like apart graphic cards, it's just built in a part of the cpu. You can't let onboard graphics and a graphics card work together. Also the onboard graphics are very weak, you won't be able to game with that...

Yeah with some of the Intel boards I heard you could use them to take strain off the GPU whilst rendering and stuff, but usually once you plug a dedicated card in, onboard video gets disabled and forgotten about.

Oh fair enough then, I wouldn't have tried to game on them or anything :P I just figured I'd ask to be sure!

I'll post up pictures and descriptions when I get my new parts and you can all let me know what you think!

Thanks so much :) Helped me a lot here

Yeahh I heard about the bulldozers replacement, but I figured it would be out of my budget when it comes out. I guess I have some more research to do!

I don't really think I want to overclock my computer, simply from laziness. My problem with the i3 is the expense, the mobo and i3 can both be more expensive that the amd mobo i found and the phenom/BD

what are you looking at? and see if you can get to a microcenter, AMD setup will be a lot cheaper there, or wait about a week or 2 and the next gen of FX will be out, piledriver, and it looks to be quite a bit better

Thanks johnny :) But everythings been pretty much sorted out now.
I did hear about the Piledrivers though, and I do hope they are good when they come out.
