is it possible that i just buy the Serial Code for windows 8 (the one microsoft emails to you) and activate that through the pre release trial download? (beta)

You can buy and run the Windows 8 upgrade Disk. I don't know how much of your old settings are kept, but am pretty sure your files would be kept.

No. You will need to perform a clean install of Windows.

i have the preview of win 8 but in the install it ask's for the product key?
if i buy a product key card or get the product key emailed to me will it install and update correctly just like if i bought the os disk?

No. You'll need to download the final release ISO from wherever you buy a key from.

Microsoft are not doing a full retail box anymore, all you can get is a worthless upgrade version, or a rip off oem version stuck to the machine it is installed on.

They are doing a (OEM) System builders version of both the "Standard and the Professional".

Yes alienmenace, that is the oem version i meant, but i am pretty sure it can only be linked to one machine.
So with windows 8 there is no way to install on one machine, then move it to a different machine ?
