Based on this chart, which card would you say is the lowest to play Skyrim completely maxed out with highres packs and everything, with no lag?
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

In other words, if you were to get any card above that one, any would work to be completely maxed out in skyrim.

p.s. My laptop has a GTX 570M and I can play in Ultra mode, but if I begin adding many highres packs then I begin to experience lag. So there is a base to work with. Anything below that probably is a no-go.

That website shows you how GTX 690 is behind GTX 670 which is utterly ridiculous.

Go to anandtech.com or something. You can check out FPS each cards you can expect by going to bench section.

hmmm, so it's a bad benchmark site? ok I will check out that site you gave me.

I can't say it's 100% bad. You can use it for your general reference but wouldn't rely solely on their data, given what their GPU benchmark is showing atm.

What resolution are you playing on? I'm playing skyrim at ultra and everything maxed out(highres used) . If I add too many mode, it begins to last a bit.
It also depends a bit on your cpu, I should say an hd7850 will fit all your needs.

Ok thanks. I will be getting either 7850 or 7870, probably 7870

6870 or higher to be safe. My 7850 plays it at 1600 x 900 with HD Textures, Full AA, at above 50 fps.

The hd7870 is a great choice. It's around 35% better then my hd6870. I saw you are planning to get an i7 3770k. That promises a long time ultra gaming for you ;P

I want to get a 2600K. 3770k is a ridiculous price. Average price is $320.

The 3770k is max 30$ more. It's faster newer, uses less power....

No it is $80 more.
I just saw that Newegg has the 2600K for $320. Elsewhere it is $80 less.
Update: Ok I saw where it is less, it is used. But you can't find a used 3770K.

Get an i5, either a 2500k or 3570k, and put the money saved in a better graphics card. You will not see a difference with a 2600k or 3770k. Better to spend the money on a better graphics card.

i7 vs i5 will make a difference to me, but I agree that Sandy vs Ivy bridge won't notice a difference.

Get Ivy Bridge if you are going for the new 3.0 cards and how will the i5/i7 wil make a difference for you? I suggest you to get 3570K and 7950 with the money saved, it will be equal to 3770K 7950 performance.
I know you don't want an i5, but getting an i5 will benefit you only.

It depends on what he wants to do.
For gaming and simple browsing, apps,... -> Get the i5
For multithreaded apps like 3Dmodeling, rendering,... -> Get the i7

So by your suggestion, I should get an i7. I did already know that though, but thank you for the confirmation.
