Did my SSD fail?

I've had my SSD as a boot drive for about 8 months now, and has worked great. However, I attempt to turn on my computer this morning and promptly received an error message instructing me to put in my system repair disk and repair windows. However, didn't work, because apparently my C drive (SSD) has nothing installed, as in under the System Recovery Options panel the Partition size for Win 7 is 0MB and the location is unknown.
have tried fixing from my external hard drive's system image, however I have had trouble getting my computer to recognize the drive. The only possible reason is that my SSD died, however this is supposed to be pretty rare so I would greatly appreciate it if someone else chimed in on what I should do.

Before putting it into another computer (this can mess things up more) I would update the BIOS on the SSD to the latest. It may give you access and fix the problem that caused it. BTW the page linked is a direct link off the Crucial website.

Amongst other fixes it:

- Fixes an issue where the system loses the SATA link which subsequently causes an issue where the system cannot detect a SSD that is connected to the system.
