no bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key"

I replaced the screen on my laptop today and when I turned it back on, the screen was working fine and then I got this message after the boot screen.

"no bootable device – insert boot disk and press any key"

So I put in my Win7 disk and loaded it, got to the 'system recovery options' box and there is no hard drive listed? I proceeded to reboot, go to the bios and into my boot order, where my samsung HD is reading as boot option 1, so I changed the settings from AHCI to IDE and tried to boot, it got passed the cant find bootable device and to the windows boot loading boot screen and froze after that.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

it cant be because its loose because when I switched it from AHCI to IDE it boots up and reads the windows 7 loader and then freezes at a black screen, switch it back to AHCI and it says theres no bootable device

Failing hard drive perhaps. Normally all laptops are defaulted to ahci mode and should boot up. You may want to run the manufacturers disk diagnostic program to test for errors.

Just had a wee look through everything in the bios, on the main page under hard drives it says none, but on the boot page it does. So I stripped it out.

Plugged it into my external hd docking unit and it read the hard drive, went to my computer - clicked to open it and it wants to format

Any advice?

Get it backed up swiftly, the drive is failing.
