Need help with choosing laptop,I found these?

I went to best buy today and seen these two hp laptops on sale this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pa...specifications?id=1218810958394&skuId=6892279
And this one,I dont really know the difference? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pa...218821793451&skuId=7015368#tab=specifications

Then my buddy says he really liked the Lenova brand so I looked them up and found this one on sale for a little more and looked promising but I didnt understand the specs,it says its a i5 processor but a dual core? http://www.microcenter.com/product/...r_-_Glossy_Brown_IMR_Intel®_Core(tm)_i5-3210M

Keep im mind I know nothing about laptops/pc's but do the HP's have quadcores? are they all dual cores? Im shopping for my son who will be 12 soon and really his only use for this will be some web browsing for school and personal, and he wants to play World Of Warcraft and most likely be watching youtube type stuff. I know its not a gaming computers but I looked up the specs for WoW and these laptops and they all seem like they should run it fine,Would you agree?
Well let me know with these interests in mind and out of this group what would be the best buy? Or if you know of another one let me know I want to stay under $450 though. Thanks so much if you could help,This is stressing me out!

I avoid HP. They're laptops run really hot and they have really poor cooling. The Lenovo is a much better option.

The first one you linked is an Intel Pentium - that's a low end chip these days. I can't tell if it's a dual core or not. The second one is a quad core AMD APU. It would run WOW pretty decently I suppose, but it's an HP. The Lenovo has a dual core i5, which is much better than the Pentium.

So take your pick. If you wanna risk buying an HP, go for it. But I'd get the Lenovo.

Your first URL is most likely a Dual Core. The spec looks OK... you have basic decent drive space...

The second URL is an AMD... in my experience, I always prefer Intel's performance, even if it is lower in the market...although Intel will always be more expensive, it is better. AMDs can also run quite hot, on HP laptops. You also have a better graphics card with this machine however. Apart from that, it is basically the same.

My largest problem with these is they have Windows 8, which probably now is the only option, but if you have a W7 DVD, you can easily put it on the laptop.

The Lenovo is significantly better however with an i5 processor... it is about three tiers higher than the pentium you have looked at. Just on this basis would I say that it is the one you should go for. Pentiums and games will not run very well...and I would personally not touch the AMD when you have an i5 to go for, which will probably easily do what you want. If you want to play games, then looking for a dedicated card built in is a good thing to do, instead of basic graphics like most of these you have shown have.

I would not safely say that any of the HP's will run WoW very well...the i5 is a greater chance, I have an i3 which games really well, but it has 2gb dedicated graphics whereas the ones that you have shown have around 16mb I am guessing - big difference.

Having a quick glance, for your $450 budget... which (for me) is around £280... have a look at these:

http://cpc.farnell.com/asus/x54c-sx318v/15-6-notebook-asus-ci3-6gb-750gb/dp/SB04881 is around £330...so $530 - which is quite a bit more.

Now looking on ebay... for $425 - this looks pretty good: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Acer-As...18604238?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item43b623bcce (-And it has windows 7... which is better than windows 8 for easiness to use.)

or this, which is exactly your budget: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Toshiba...31976255?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item416ecfa53f

(Try this search for more like it)

But as I say, try to look for i3, i5, i7 if possible, i3s have 4 cores (2 cores, and 2 threads - which is like a core, it works the same, but isnt a core), i5's have more obviously.

For your budget, you probably will not get that greater of a processor, or graphics card - which is vital to what you need.

Hope this helped!

HP's are still OK for laptops, they get hot, but they dont "overheat", and mine did get hot - trust me. Really and truely, laptops like that should have a heatsink and fan beneath it to spread out the heat distribution, and cool it down. Toshiba Satellites are good for keeping cool, even when running at 100%

What you have to remember is that stuff like i3s, i5s and i7s are more expensive on their own than Pentiums, which means if you look at the range of them, they should be about the same price (not taking into account graphics cards, ram and hdd size), but if you see a cheap i5 for example like the lenovo, which is the same priceranges as the Pentiums and low end AMDs, then the Lenovo will have cuts in other areas of the hardware to keep it at the lower price. Its like if you bought a HDD and a Motherboard for $100 (Which you probably wouldnt), if you buy both for $50, then they will be the same quality as eachother, if you buy a $80 motherboard, then that only leaves you $20 for the HDD, which means the HDD will be slower and poorer quality. Whereas if you paid $75 for the HDD, then that leaves $25 for the Motherboard, which to be the same price will have to be a poorer quality. Good stuff at cheap prices is not what it seems.

As far as I'm aware Lenovo are storming the market at the moment, their systems are well built with decent specs.

I agree, Lenovo has some of the best built laptops on the market right now, they can be a bit more expensive than others but they will last a longer time and have great overall performances.
