Getting a new Vishera 4300
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113287)
Seeing as I'm upgrading from a Core 2 Duo, is it a good idea to order another 120mm fan, or should it run at roughly the same temp? Currently have a tower with plenty of space, one sys fan, PSU has a 120mm, GPU has 2 fans. Never had a problem with heat before, computer was purchased prebuilt, I added in the GPU and PSU.

I'm getting a new board and everything else that that entails. Can't remember the actual model number, runs at 2.94 Ghz according to windows.

I don't do very much which would actually use 6 or 8 cores, and the 4300 has the highest speed per core for 95W CPUs that I found (Besides the Zambezi model, but I didn't think that .2 GHz per core was worth 30W of outtage).

Well here the 6300 is just 10 bucks more. Both are unlocked. 10 bucks for 2 more cores, not bad. Its just me, never liked the 4000 series. Only two modules. Any thing over 2 threads you start sharing resources. But if your wanting a 95W and not running much using more then 2 threads the 4300 will be fine. But just 10 bucks man, lol.

Yeah, the closest thing to multitasking I ever do is having more then one tab open in my web browser. I'd just be buying 30W of heat for 10$. Also, most people on Newegg seem to think that the stock heatsink is better on the 4300 then the 6300.

It's the same heatsink and it does fine, or for 20 or 30 you can get a decent new one and push it to 4.7GHz or so

Id still like to know what CPU you have. Please download PC WIzard from my sig and install it, and go to FILE, SAVE AS and CLICK OK then copy the text out of that file into this thread mate.

If thats all your doing, your not going to see much difference then what your getting with the core 2. Like above whats all your systems spec?

Yes, that is what im thinking. If he has a E8600 or similar, the new AMD stuff wont give much performance boost

Sorry for the confusion, by multitasking I meant literally running multiple programs at once. This would mostly be for gaming, and for some compiling of maps in Hammer, or C code, maybe video editing at some point. Most likely my naiveté on the subject of the specifics of threading.

No point upgrading and even if you did, I would drop in a Q6600 or similar instead. Much cheaper and plenty for what you need.

Games only generally use 2 cores anyway.

You seem to be concerned for it to be a 95W. Doesnt sound like you would be overclocking. For what you would be doing your better off with a socket 1155 and maybe something like a i3 3220. Would not suggest the FX unless your into overclocking which it doesnt sound like you are.

*sigh*
Naturally, more then a page in into a thread, I've gotten plenty of conflicting advice, and no answer to the actual question being asked. GG INTERNET.

Well its like any thing else. If you tell people your going from this to that and want to know if you need extra cooling. If they dont think that the upgrade will benefit you, the cooling will become the secondary issue. On the Internet or face to face.

For a direct answer. If the cooling is fine now, going to a 2 module 95W running stock it should be fine. But then again a half good 120 fan doesnt cost but like 10 bucks.
