core i7 930 over clocking woe's

First off, here is the info in my rig;
i7 930
asus p6t deluxe v2
gskill trident ddr3 1600 (3 x 2GB)

Even at stock clock it hits 75c running prime95 after an hour. Bumping it up to 3.4Ghz (170x20) @1.2650v yields a hi temp of 87c after only 15 minutes. You would think I was using a stock Cooler, but I have a Coolermaster V8 in there. This is in an antec 900 case with all fans at full song. Water cooling may be an option, but I'm not sure something else isn't the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe you used too much or not enough thermal paste.
take off the cooler and remove the old cooling paste with something above 90% alcohol.
Remove it on both, cooler and cpu.
Then you'll need to apply new cooling paste by placing a small grain of paste in the middle of the cpu. Then just place the heatsink on it (should spread automatically).
Try prime again, the thermal paste should be on top performance after a week if you use your pc much.

Ok, so I decided to take your advice and re apply new thermal paste on the cpu. While tearing down the computer I took the time to clean everything as it has had 3 years to collect dust. After re assembly things are cooler, but not drastically. standard clocking idels around 38c, and 100% on prime yeilds 72c. to 3.2Ghz gives an idle of 42c and 100% on prime95 yeilds 80c. Not great, but an improvement. thanks for your advice.

When you removed the dust, did you remove the dust in the heatsink too? It can be that the dust is stuck between the plates. (I don't think it's that much with a v8)
The V8 is after all not that great, but these temps are a bit too high.
Do what jonnyp suggested.

I'll check into the bios settings tonite after work. The heat sink was disassembled, all parts cleaned, and reassembled. Computer is like new.

I have a 930, not sure if it is CO or DO. I did notice that the lowest cpu voltage I can input is 1.25v. Bios will not allow a lower voltage, however, when I open my hardware monitor program in windows it shows a cpu voltage of 1.3v! WTF?
