Laptop video card replacement

So as the title says I want to try to change the video card in one of my laptops, and the questions are: How can I check if my laptop has an MXM slot? Is it going to work?

Unless the laptop has a dedicated graphics card, which most don't, you can't switch it out and even if it does, you still might not be able to switch it out. With laptops you are pretty much stuck with what you got. What is the make and model of your laptop.

I have 5 different laptops, but I don't want to risk breaking them. I was thinking about buying a new/used one online, maybe something with a core 2 duo because they are pretty cheap, so I am not going to loose a whole bunch of money if I fail... I'm planning on doing this project to gain some experience, and not to fix one of my laptops. Anyone can recommend me some cheap laptop with an MXM slot?

laptops. Bad idea to change anything. But that is not to say that it can not be done.

MXM is not the same across all laptops. It is more of an electrical standard. Dell/Alienware uses a different slot from MSI, who are different from HP, who are different from Asus.
The easiest ones to change out are the Sager designed laptops. Everything in them are standard connectors, and ugradeable except for the motherboard layout.

Basically, you can replace/upgrade your card as long as you stay with cards from your laptop. Chances are a GTX260 from a Dell will not replace a 9800m GTX from a Gateway. Though, a GTX580m from a sager will likely replace a 7900m GTX from another sager, though I would not know why you would want to, minus mad amounts bragging rights (coming from something on the lines of 965PM @ Memrom/Penrym Core 2 CPU)

Oh, in this case I think I'll just forget about it... cause now it sounds wayyy harder then I thought it would be :D, just from pure curiosity, how good is the quadro nvs160m? Would a pc with this card be able to handle any modern games? Maybe games like COD 2...?

It will not handle much. It only has 8 CUDA cores and is based off the 9300m GS.

You really need the Quadro FX or Geforce GTX to play games. A 7900m GTX (FX2500m) will still game well enough. Runs MW3 almost maxxed out at 1200p.
