Motorola Surfboard 6121 with Comcast HELP

I have had Comcast for a few weeks now and have had nothing but problems. Their gateway was not working with my Xbox which is a known issue so I went out and purchased the Motorola SB6121 which is on their approved site. After a lot of reading and swearing I cannot seem to figure out what the issue is. I will have 30+mbs then down to almost nothing, the modem keeps connecting and disconnecting. I read a that there may be firmware issues.

Anyway from the amount of literature available online about this modem and how many people are using and loving this modem how have you resolved this issue so it works with comcast? Please help as Comcast is completely in the dark.
 
You have gave comcast the mac address of the new router correct? I have the sb6120 and it works great. I just checked motorola's website and there is no firmware update for it. So its either a bad modem or a comcast issue.
 
ya they have the mac address, a tech came out and installed it. I was getting 36gb/s for a hour or two then down to 5 or less. The more i google it seems to maybe be a comcast firmware issue. not sure if anyone else had luck with the modem and comcast?
 
The only thing you can do is replace it, then if it still happens then its a comcast issue.

Well just in case it was the modem I ordered the Motorola SB6141 which is also comcast compliant.

John how long have you been using the SB6120? from day one you have had no problems?

The first time the tech installed my 6121 he couldnt get it to connect, second time out to my house it ran 36mb/sec for an hour then dropped to 5mb/sec. I have it installed now but runs around 5-6mb/sec on average ( paying for 30/sec) now today these past few hours its running 15-20 mb/sec.

Any ideas ?
 
Got a SB6121 with Charter and hasnt give me any problems. Supposed to be getting 30 but for some reason getting 70. Not going to complain, lol.

Been using it for about a year with no issues.
