Track IR 5 Alternative

Hey all,

I have found an alternative to track ir...a cheap so-so alternative that will have to do until i stop being so cheap.

Some of you may have heard of it...Freetrack.

Anyways, how do i create the headset leds?

I understand that the programme needs a webcam but there is also pictures of caps with leds strapped to them on the website.

Does anyone know what to do? or how to create one?

I desperately need something like this for DCS a10c.

Looks like you need to do a bit of soldering, trip to Maplin? :P
 
Bollox :/ If theres one thing i hate more than life its damn soldering :/

Thankfully this doesnt look like its going to cost much :P

Have you used freetrack before?


If so how does it compare to Track IR or normal pov hat view?

I haven't mate but ive heard about it. Supposedly it's pretty good but I don't think it's as accurate or reliable as TrackIR
 
Seems that way but for a fraction of the price i am not going to moan. Its actually going to pretty cheap for me :D I found out i can use my wii remote as a camera :P Dont know how it works but it does, and its supposed to be great at tracking. more so than most webcams.

I did check out some vids on youtube of this in action with a10c and it looks pretty spot on.

Just need to find somewhere local for the led's. Everything else can be found easily but led's i wouldnt know where to start.

Check out Maplin, online or at a shop. They sell electronic shit
 
Can i use any led's?

Iv been searching for some recommended ones but theyre pretty expensive for what they are.


(I could find plenty of leds just not the SFH485p ones which are the ones on that diagram :P)

You will need a resistor too otherwise theyll just pop :P
 
Iv asked on the free track forum for someone to help me come up with a cheap shopping list on ebay :P with alternative led's.

That way all i will have to do is build it :D Hopefully someone gets back to me soon and i can get the stuff ordered.

Cant wait to play DCS and arma 2 with head movement tracking :D
