Xp to 8 question

So I red on microsoft's website that in order to upgrade from win xp 32 bit to 64bit win 8 I have to perform a custom installation from an upgrade cd which is $70. What if I purchase the downloadable $40 upgrade and burn it onto a dvd? Is it going to work just as well as the dvd microsoft is selling for $70 will, or do I have to buy their dvd because the download version cannot be put on a dvd?

If the downloadable version wasn't able to be burned to a DVD, then Microsoft would not offer that option.

But to answer your question, yes it will work fine. Be sure to back up any data you want to save, and you will need to boot to the disc and format your hard drive to install Win8. Though in essence, 8 is not worth it at all.

Ok, I wasn't sure because I thought that this downloadable version is for upgrade advisor only and in this case I wouldn't be able to install the 64bit version, and would be stuck with 32bit and 3.75gb of ram instead of 8gb...

XP Home, MCE, and Pro only support up to 4GB Ram anyway...unless you have XP Pro X64...which then gives you no driver support I have been told.

None of that matters for what he's trying to do anyway. OP just needs to be sure he downloads the 64-bit version.

In the beginning the XP Pro x64 didn't have driver support, but when Vista hit the scene, there was plenty support for it. I ran it with no problems for 3.5 yrs.

So how can I download the upgrade in iso format, cause on microsoft's website when I go to download the $40 upgrade it says that it will download upgrade advisor and I want to get the upgrade in iso format so I can put it on a dvd...

When you purchase it it should allow you to download the ISO. Just go ahead and purchase it and if you have issues call Microsoft.
