What memory should I get?

I'm building an AMD 8350, 7850 Video, Asus Saber tooth 990FX R2.0 AMD Motherboard, 750 Watt power supply and I want 8 gigs of 1866 RAM but I'm having a hard time on which one. Money isn't a problem but I just want something good. This is going to be a gaming computer. Any advice would be appreciated

-how much do you want to spend on it?

I suggest getting Samsung RAM and just manually set it to 1866. It is not difficult at all. install the ram, go to the bios and choose 1866. You should be able to set the CAS latency to around 9-10-10-24 or maybe a little tighter.

If you must get native 1866 for whatever reason, then look at kingston or G.Skill. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104396 is a good choice.

I would get these over the ones above.

Corsair Vengeance are pretty popular DDR3 among builders but I found Gskill to be decent too. I have both and no problem at all.

Of course I like to under rate 'em. I use 1600s for 1333 and earlier as 1066.

but are their "teeth" by plastic?

I have a pair and I never looked to see if they are but it does look like plastic but it could be metal instead. I'll have to open mine and check it out.

If you're talking about the heat spreaders on top of the RAM then yes they're plastic.

No they aren't, they are metal heatspreaders and metal fins. What would be the point of a plastic heatsink?

The whole point of a heatsink is to dissipate heat better, and plastic most certainly would not do that. You would have a shroud then rather than a heatspreader, which Ripjaws don't have,

Less cost for the manufacturer company, maybe?...

Some posts in NewEgg say they are plastic.

That would be pretty dumb. Why make it at all? Anyway, if it's plastic the chips will burn up because the plastic will not radiate the heat away.

To trick us.

Yes, it wont radiate heat away(thats what worry me). But chips wont be burned because the rest of heatsink is by metal.
Besides, some ram modules have no heatsinks at all.

Plastic would insulate the chips if anything, making them run warmer which neither a manufacturer nor a consumer wants. RAM modules can have no heatsinks and a lot of budget sets don't, but none will be wrapped in a plastic shroud directly onto the chips

Can you show me these post?

Yes, go to Newegg page about this product, among those hundreds of posts you ll find

- Τhe heatsink is a gimmick, it feels like plastic and it feels less effective than the HyperX t1's I used to have.

- The heat spreaders feel kind of cheap, it's almost like they aren't even real metal

It says right there in the description aluminium heatspreaders. Im going to trust the manufacturer specs above newegg reviews any day, especially when most of the people leaving the reviews appear to be esn

This is what it says on corsair site.

(Aluminum heat spreaders help dissipate heat, and provide the aggressive look that you want in your gaming rig.)
