Are you wanting to use in replace of the hard drive you have now or an addition to? As long as the ssd is a 2.5" drive it will fit in the laptop.
If you want to connect it as an external drive then you could mount it in an external case or use one of the SATA docks or even one of the SATA adapter cables.
USB will not offer anywhere near the speed of SATA2/3. You're better off just using a flashdrive to share whatever data you want to share.
If you laptop has an external ESATA Port you could buy an esata enclosure.
Alternatively buy a esata pcmcia card, or expresscard or whatever expansion card your laptop supports
