Hi guys,

I'm looking at upgrading my rig, just looking for an A-O.K in terms of hardware compatibility!

Also, I'm going with a Xeon because:
1) Don't need the IGP (if my GPU fails, I won't be using my PC)
2) I will not be overclocking at all, and 3)
3) The Xeon 1230v2 (from my research) is identical to the i7's, just a lower clock and no integrated graphics...Although the 8 threads would be useless for my games (exempt a few), it would be great for my music creation and video editing :]

RAM: G.Skill Sniper 1600mhz ULV

MOBO: Asrock H77M

CPU: Intel Xeon 1230v2 (Ivy Bridge)

Just wondering if these will all work in harmony..Thanks guys for any help!

Xeon processors are used for business pc's and servers, not home pc's. I do not recommend using them.

Because it isn't designed for home pc's. If you are gonna be doing any type of gaming then you want a different processor like an I5. Xeons are for business applications and servers.

Alrighty then..What are your guy's opinion on the i5-3350p? I'm looking into that instead of the Xeon now, would it do well for gaming? It seems to be at a great price point too!

Thanks!

That would likely do the job nicely, plus you wouldnt need to buy ECC ram to make use of the Xeon as well as an board that supports ECC.
