USB still powered after shutdown

Hello everyone,

I recently installed Win8 on my PC and since then (before, I had Win7) when I shutdown the computer all USB ports are still powered - but if I turn off the PC with the power button it all turns off - including USBs. I know most people think this is a good thing to charge mp3s or phones, but 1. iPods (the only thing I could want to charge) don't charge, and 2. I hate that blue light of my mouse in the night!
Hope that somebody has the solution...!

That's just an OS settings, you're probably set up to go to sleep rather than actually turning it off. If pushing the power button completely turns it off then your OS isn't fully shutting it down.

Yes, that's what I thought too, but I can't find this option anywhere, I tried also googling the problem and adding "windows 8" but everybody says it's a BIOS setting, like StrangleHold says - the problem is that actually I can't find no "wake on usb" (or wake on lan", as I read on other forums) in the BIOS!

There might also be an option in the bios for charging electronics when pc is off. Can't think of the exact name of the option though. I want to say on/off charge? Is this a store bought pc or a custom built machine?

Well I guess it's BIOS then. Due to the fact that pushing the button turns them off but not shutting down via the OS does would lead me to think the OS is at fault. Are you talking about pressing and holding the power button until it just goes black or just pressing it and releasing and letting it do the shut down cycle?

The first one, and that's why I thought it was an OS problem. In fact, clicking on the link by bigfellla, even if it doesn't involve my problem, I remembered that in the power options there's a "quick boot" option, and it is selected. However I cannot change it because I'm in "trial" version (:P) Maybe that's the point...? Could please somebody who has Windows 8 try and check if this is the option I was looking for? Thanks :)
