stupid question

I wouldn't think so, I would think you would need to get rid of old setup programs for such old cpu tho. Then load the new ones after installation of cpu.

No. But I would
Stick Cd in
Drop to a cmd prompt
navigate to CD and type winnt32 /unattend /noreboot
When done shut machine down and replace CPU

i was just thinking of popping in a new cpu for this old pc, i dont have a trustworthy windows disk or any utility disks for that matter so i dont want to have to re install windows, just put in a little better cpu
i got intel d845gebv2 mobo and socket 478 mpga intel pentium 4 1.8 gh "waiting for gasps to did down lool" looks like i can put a 3.06 GH pentium 4 533 kh http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845gebv2/sb/CS-020075.htm correct me if im wrong, just need to know if i will need a windows disk , i know i can burn one from iso image but im just worried it wont work and i will be stuck with no pc

THANKS for helping the noob

Changing the CPU won't cause any changes to the OS except for the drivers which the OS will handle for you.

The real question is, is your BIOS able to support it? It may need to be updated so you need to find what version you have and what version you need to support it.
