Update: Is your service being throttled?

That is, is your downloading/upload speed being deliberately slowed up.

I have a curious situation. I'm supposed to be throttled right now, yet today either my internet connection keeps getting interrupted or it speeds up as if it were unthrottled which I attribute to 4G LTE conversion in my area.

Currently I can get 5GB of unthrottled service with Cricket which will be increased to 10GB
once the conversion to allow 4G LTE service is completed. So I will have the opportunity to be less restricted.

I've just heard from my rep that everybody gets throttled, but I'm not sure about this. So whether you have a computer or a smartphone, I'd like to hear about your experience and who your ISP is. And here's a Wiki article that discusses this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth_throttling

My DSL speed gets throttled based on how much we pay. Most ISPs have tiers set up and they throttle your speed to how much you pay, even though it all runs through the same thing. Then again I'm running DSL and I think it's only me and the caveman on the corner that still use it.

Do you plan to upgrade? Can you upgrade?

I never get throttled because I have a truly unlimited package, none of this unlimited, but it turns out it is actually 20GB or something.

I was previously on 20Mb/s with 10GB per month (I think...) and was using the whole 10GB within the first few days, so updated to Virgin's unlimited package, which was at the time 50MB/s, unlimited downloads. I since upgraded to 100MB/s and then a few months back got a free upgrade to 120MB/s, still unlimited.

VM do throttle during peak hours, you especially notice it if your watching stuff on YouTube in HD during the peak hours.

I couldn't do with a limited package, with 3 of us using the same connection it would be used within a couple of days.

I had 50mb connection with Virgin media,Then they doubled it to 100mb.But i never really seen over 85mb during speedtest even at like 3-4am in the morning.

I then downgraded to 60mb because i felt 100mb was a ripoff just for internet so decided to go 60mb + a TV package...still expensive for what you get but there really isn't much choice in our area.

I'm going to stick with this for 12 months.then when out contracts near its end il see if BT has finally put Infinity in our area.

Moved thread to "Internet Discussion".

I never really have any throttling issues with TalkTalk, I am sure they have a fair use policy, but I can always connect at my rated speed.

I'm on an unlimited plan too, which I upgraded to a few years ago, I've downloaded over 500GB per month a few times, TalkTalk have never said a word. :)

I'm on an unlimited package with BT.

I still got throttled, although I think this is more to do with the area I live in as opposed to anything else. My exchange is 6km from me, I live in the middle of nowhere and my best ever download speed has been 2.4mbps.

It seems I now only get throttled while trying to watch football online.
