Installed Planetside 2 since I have this awesome GPU and all, and on the lowest settings I'm ranging from 5-15 FPS.

wut

GPU is GTX 660 btw.

Yeah it's an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+.

Darn it.

It's not the AMD, it's the cpu, my 960t and 470 max it all day IIRC

Nevermind, can't get good settings at all in large city things during fights, but i just don't really like the game so i dont care really

I had some fun running people over in tanks and getting out and shooting things, so I'm sad it's too damn unoptimized.

I like that style of game though.

I find it funny how a PC exclusive is unoptimized for the PC. Maybe upgrading your CPU will help, and even without the game that CPU is a bottleneck to the GPU. I am actually getting a fair bit better FPS then that with a laptop Llano A6.

In areas where there's not a lot of stuff I can get 40-60 FPS, but it fluctuates so. badly.

With my 2500K and 5870 at 1080p, I got around 30 FPS I think. It's just quite a demanding game I think.

In large areas it is very demanding, regardless of processor, but a dual core and especiallyone so old is just not gonna cut it.

As I said before. This game does exceedingly better with a physx card. IF you love this game and game on AMD, get yourself a second hand 8800GT or similar to handle physx.

My card supports physx, I just don't have a second one to run physx on. It did do better I noticed but FPS was still poopy.

I think they were talking about having an Athlon CPU, not the video card. Physx on that card should be fine.

Is your Motherboard capable of overclocking? It seems like you're pretty much in the same boat as I am when it comes to CPU performance, but I've been able to squeeze out a moderate performance boost with only a minor voltage tweak. Granted, you're working with a higher base TDP, but I would think that you can at least squeeze a bit more out of your chip.

I just happen to have a 8800GT right here, in a box, in my living room... weird...hmmm....

I havent noticed dropping below 60FPS yet. But I also havent been in an area with alot of people yet either.

But I cant see any reason why it would be "intensive". Dont see anything really special about it other than a few nice textures here and there.

Says the guy running a GTX 680. :D

It has good effects and they are being rendered over a very large area, very intensive compared to many games.

The OP is claiming to not be getting playable framerates on a 660. And isnt the 660 only 15-20% slower than the 680 or something like that? I wouldnt think it should be getting 5-15 fps.
