Laptop dark screen

I finally managed to fix my Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM laptop and the only problem is that when I installed one of the drivers (not sure which one) the screen got really dark and I can't brighten it up with a key that's supposed to do that, because when I click it nothing happens. What can I do?

If you are on Windows 7 you may have to up the brightness manually. This may be kind of offensive to you as this is probably the method you tried first, but just in case...
In windows 7, control panel>power options>and find the brightness bar and bring it up. Sorry if you already tried this.
 
If you are not usre which one is the function key, its usually called "Fn" . Hold it down and find they Brightness icon on your keyboard and press them both a bunch of times and see if the brightness changes.
