HDD Error...

Hey guys,

Upon booting Win8 Pro my pc gives me an error that there is a hard disk error and I should backup everything. Clearly one of my hard drives is having issues. I have a 300g sata for primary and a 500g laptop drive with a 3.5" adapter for secondary storage. In disk management they both show up as healthy. Once I click cancel the pc runs fine but I don't want to risk everything.

1) Is is a C drive problem if that error shows up once windows load or is it just picking up that one of the drives has an issue?

2) Is there a way to determine which drive it is since disk management says both are healthy?

I would run a disk diagnostic on each drive to be sure. What you are getting is a smart error and needs to be figured out which drive is bad.

How would I go about running a diag on each? Is that bios or windows based? Or do I need another program?

I recommend the dos version providing you have a brand that supports it. What brand of hard drives are they?

Seagate is primary and Toshiba is secondary.

Disconnect the toshiba to see if you still get the error. If not, then you no its the toshiba. If you still get the error then use seatools, follow the guide here.

If the toshiba is causing the issue then you may as just get a new drive as they are usually garbage anyway.
