Clicking HDD

My dad's external drive doesn't start up and makes a clicking sound when powered on. I've read that it means it's dead, is it true or is there a way to repair it?

HDD Click is essentially artifacting for a HDD. It is dead or dying, and no way around it.

I'd quickly get everything off it before it stops working, and replace it

My mistake
