HDD failed/virus help!

Hi all,

So here's the story. I noticed my laptop suddenly slowing down dramatically the other day, so I restarted it a few times. Each time I restarted it, it got slower and slower, to a point where it would literally take 5 minutes to open "My Documents". Then, it wouldn't even boot past the windows screen.

Ways I've already tried:
- safe mode with/without network...FAILED
- re install windows, but it wouldn't even get past the "Starting Windows" screen so I can't even format the HDD

- bought an HDD enclosure to connect to a working computer. HDD is recognized, but only EXACTLY half the capacity is recognized, which i find a bit odd...i ran recuva on it (took 4 hours) and it came up with nothing

Any suggestions?

Just sounds like the drive is on the way out. What brand of drive is it? You can use the drive manufacturers utility to test the drive.

It will test the drive and report back if it has errors on the drive.

Yes it's probably the HDD failing.
You should back up everything you can as soon as possible.

back it up even though it shows up empty?

You can always try to recover data using programs like pareto logic data recovery.
