Making my first gaming pc

Hey I have been on this forum quite a lot but I have chopped and changed what parts I am going to use quite a lot so I'd like to do a final check to see if this PC will a) function and b) be able to run games such as battlefield 3 (and laterally BF4) and other games on medium to high settings comfortably.

Thanks :D

OK thanks man i'll swap out the motherboard but i reckon i'll stick with the monitor for now as later i can splash out more on a second one as I plan on going dual monitors

I would get Windows 8, and you really will want to stretch 20 pounds for a 1080P monitor, preferably at least 21 inches. And you can't game with 2 different monitors, you know that right? Do you just want a backup monitor? But I still really think the 20 pounds is way worth it.

Why 8? W7 has plenty of support left if he doesn't like the new UI.

Agreed on the monitor. 1080 is much better for gaming. Dual monitors are really nice but I would get one good one first (don't need to spend a fortune) and match it later when you have the funds.

Because first of all, most people keep their OS for as long as possible, which means that you will want to upgrade from W7 3 years earlier then W8, and W8 is the newest OS with the newest features and security. And you can make the UI very similar to 7. And, get a CX M series, the modular is nice. A 6300 is fine, don't get any FX XX50 CPU.

Monitor looks good to me. Get that one.

price vs performance. If gaming is the focus of your build I would rather have an FX 6300 than an 8350 and use the money saved on a better cooler for higher overclocks. Most games do not take advantage of more than 4 cores. Having 6 vs 8 is not all that much better performance in gaming. If you are running applications in the background that need some power to them while gaming you might see a difference but apart from that there is little difference that I see. It's the same logic of why the 3570k is the perferred gaming CPU over the 3770k. The extra threads of the 3770k offer little performance gain for the price. Just to add to what PCunicorn said about the xx50 CPUs is the 8320 and 8350 will be nearly identical when overclocked. or if you just want the speed of the 8350 you can change the core speed of the 8320 in the BIOS really easy on the stock cooler.

FX XX50 CPUs are rip offs, slightly higher clock speed that can be achieved with OCing for more money. Though if you can get XX50 cpus at the same price as the XX00s, go for it.

My Desktop Build HELP ?!?

I also am trying to build my first gaming desktop, I know what I'm doing slightly but not too much and i needed some help from people how know what their talking about, these are the hardware i was thinking about using:

CASE - Zalman Z11 Plus - Red

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-Z11-...368916395&sr=8-1&keywords=zalman+z11+plus+red

MOTHERBOARD - Asus P8Z7-V

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-P8Z77-...TF8&qid=1368916570&sr=1-9&keywords=Asus+p8z77

GRAPHICS CARD - EVGA 02G-P4-3657
http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-02G-P4...d=1368916775&sr=1-1&keywords=evga+02g-p4-3657

OPERATING SYSTEM - Intel 3rd generation core i5-3570K
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Gener...qid=1368916843&sr=1-1&keywords=intel+i5+3570k

i have picked out a mouse and keyboard but didn't think they were relevant to include, i do not however have a screen and ram picked out, i only need 8gb to 16gb ram at the moment the whole 32gb is just for future proofing, if there is anything you would recommend to change please try and keep it around the same price and include a link, FYI the screen isn't really necessary but if you recommend one then that would be nice

Thank You

Very sorry for the endless essay :gun:
to be honest i would like the keep the graphic card the same as i like it and i like Nvidia so if there's anything you think i should change i will most likely not change the graphic card but i will have a look at what you offer so please still ask if you think i should change it, i am still open minded about what hardware i want in this desktop, i also am most defiantly keeping this case but again i will look at what you have to offer as long as it is around the same price and red led's must be kept.

Cheers.

XxBillxX please create a new thread for your system. That way the thread doesn't get confusing what system we are commenting on.

Any new build should definitely try and squeeze in an SSD just for the OS. Win 7 or 8 on an SSD will be fine (and quick), but i now build most of my PC's with win 8 as you always have the option of using start8 ($4.99) to bypass the metro interface if you so choose. Win 8 memory management is improved over win 7 along with many other tweaks and features behind the scenes.

If you can swing it, you could pick up a 120GB ssd for under $100.00 and it will significantly improve load times for just about everything.

While I agree that an SSD is nice to have and will speed up the system, don't sacrifice anything in order to put an SSD in the system. Most users don't install games to SSD so the speed benefit is low. Faster startup times and faster day to day applications that are installed to it.

If you have to cut corners elsewhere to include an SSD, skip it. get one later.

Agreed. Definitely worth doing if you can squeeze in the SSD into the build as this system will be used for more than just gaming i am sure and is a multi year investment. But I also agree to skip the SSD if you can't squeeze it in without compromising the other components.
