Video Card Issue

My video card seems to be dying or something seeing that I have been having lockups and random restarts along with defective screen lines. In order to know for sure, I have disabled it in Bios and using onboard vga but I got a random reboot with this as well. If the video card is going bad should it be removed from the system or can it stay? I have still heard its fan with onboard vga being used.

Take it completely out of the system and see how it works.

Can we get your system specs? What Power Supply do you have?

Did you connect the vga cable to the mobo?

Remove all dust from the videocard, also under its fan.
Also monitor your temps (HWmonitor, HWinfo, AIDA,...)

Your specs should help us a little more.

Don't know my power supply but it was changed to a more powerful unit to support my 8800gts seeing that the first one died after 1 year. I always monitor my temps and no overheating was happening to the GPU. I haven't even game on it in a while. Yes I connected the monitor cable to the mobo now. I have yet to open the case and check for dust or any oddities inside. Will report back soon.

Can you give us the load and idle temps from the gpu and cpu.
Also, what's the brand and model number of the PSU? (Open your case)

Okay so the PSU is an Xtech - JSP-600P08N - 600W. I also removed the video card which looked fine btw and going to use the pc like this for a week or two without it to know for sure if the problem was the GPU or something else. It was also a little dusty so i'm not sure if that could actually render it but I cleaned it up and stored it back in its box for now.

Specs: Intel c2d e7400 stock speed, 4gb ram, msi factory overclocked nvidia 8800gts 640mb, seagate 750gb drive

How to test your graphics card - This will probably help although using the system without the GPU and without hitch will strongly support an issue that is graphics card related.

"Defective Screen Lines" sounds very much like artifacting - if it is then you will most likely need to replace the graphics card.
