Greetings ALL,
...My friend has a computer I put together that has win xp pro, plenty of ram and 2 HARD DRIVES - 1 the larger contains "everything" and the other is a smaller back up of the bare-balls computer before programs were added (as in the 1st drive).
...What I am being told is this:
1)...When the computer is powered on as normal, she is getting a BLACK SCREEN that says,"NTLDR IS MISSING". and PRESS CTRL/ALT/DELETE TO RESTART".
2)...That does nothing.
3)...I told her to shut down the computer and restart which she did.
4)...While booting up, she was directed by me to keep pressing "F8".
5)...Then, she gets a BLACK BOX that says; "PLEASE SELECT A BOOT DRIVE". At that point, she selects the "larger" hard drive and everything works well with her being able to access her "stuff" as normal. It just started doing this this week.
...I do not know what happened and it appears as no result of a virus. If I remember correctly, I have cmos(?) bios(?) as ENABLING BOTH DRIVES with the primary larger drive being first in the boot order.
...What I had thought is, to have her (she is 300 miles away) get into the bios(?) and "DISABLE" the 2nd bare balls smaller drive that I had mentioned. Does anyone think this will solve this problem? She has NO DISCS there FYI. Thanks for any help on this!
