I'm new to the computer world. I am looking at building my own computer here soon. But till then all i have is a work computer. I am wanting to add a couple of hardware items to this computer till i'm able to buy everything to build a computer. I have a Intel Pentium D 840, i am wanting to know if that is able to support the Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1600 MHz Ram. Please help. I need an answer fast!

Depends on the motherboard, but quite unlikley as the pentium d was launched when ddr2 was popular and as far as I remember the ddr3 switch came nearer the end of the socket 775 lifetime and the pentium d was nearer the start.

But you may have the pentium d in one of the newer 775 boards, so again depends on the motherboard inside your pc.

Thank you! Another question though. If i was to run DDR2 with my mother board, would that still give me a good little kick if I was to play online games, like Tera?
