Laptop Won't Start

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro S500 Laptop that won't start. I bought a new power jack and installed it into the laptop and tested it with a voltmeter, it works fine, and the laptop did in fact start up with the new adapter and power jack. A couple days later I try to start up the laptop again, but it won't start. I took the laptop apart again and tested the power jack and also tested the power adapter, both are working fine so I don't know why the laptop won't start up again.

No it wasn't, I just plugged it in. However, I even touched the voltmeter up against the connector where the soldered points are on the mobo and had the correct 15 volts coming through, so it appears the voltage is being delivered to the mobo.

The battery needs to be replaced, it depletes quickly when the adapter is not plugged in (I discovered this when I could turn the laptop on a few days ago). I've tried turning on the laptop without the battery connected and it doesn't work, I don't even get any indicator lights when the adapter is plugged it :(

I know... I fear that there may be something on the motherboard that is damaged. I've read a post on another forum discussing an issue similar to mine and someone mentioned that a failing battery puts more load on the charging circuit and eventually could damage the mobo. When I was able to start up the laptop it did charge the battery (I've even tested the pins in the battery bay and they seem to be fine) it's the battery itself that was failing.
