So due to some "electrical" problems (i dont need to get into it) my old Mobo was fried along with my psu. I have a new PSU and a new motherboard was already ordered before the frying. Hopefully I will get it sometime tuesday.

Anyways ill get to the point.
Since the frying I am unsure if my current processor is cooked, and wont know till I hook it up to the new motherboard that Ill be getting.

Just a precaution I am looking for a replacement just in case it was cooked. (I also planned on upgrading the processor later anyways)

So my current processor is a 2nd Gen i7 2600 running @3.4 Ghz. (LGA 1155)

Im looking for one that is better than the one I currently have. I know there are processors for servers and processors for desktops. I would definitely like one more suited towards servers but I need it to be good for general use/heavy gaming

My budget is $1000 max (give or take $100).

Any suggestions? It must be able to work with this board:

You are well below your budget so you can either pocket the difference of upgrade other parts of your system.

I do like upgrading, but the only thing left to upgrade would be the hard drive as everything else has now been upgraded. (Just waiting anxiously on that damn mobo)

I was planning on maybe getting 4 new 1 TB harddrives or 2 2 TB harddrives. if I get 4 I would want 2 for speed boost and 2 for redundancy (Not sure which raid mode that is, raid 5?? Idk), they would be mechanical drives as ssd is too expensive, and from what I heard/read mechanical are better for numerous large file transfers like a server.

I also have concerns as I want to be able to take the memory from my current drive and move it over to the new drives. How would I go about doing that?
Make a backup or image of the drive then stick the new drives in and use system repair disc on it?

What is your current drive setup ?

Do you have a lot of data ?

I have 1, 1 TB harddrive and about 800 gbs is full. (lots of games, lots of movies, and lots of music)
I also have a 750 GB external harddrive that I backup my info to.
I also regularly run a minecraft server as well.

It basically make an exact copy of one drive to another.

The best software is acronis true image 2013 but it cost`s £40, you can get the freeware equivalent which is macrium reflect http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

My computer gives me an option to either backup my data or make an image.
Couldnt I just use the option to make an image?

And does making an image also preserve my OS? I really dont want to have to buy another OS disc.

Backup will backup your files but not your windows installation, you have to clone the whole image to keep your set up exactly as it is.

If you're looking into cloning, check out the guide in my sig. ;) I usually use Clonezilla, which is free and works great. As far as your CPU upgrade, I would go with the 3770k; it's nearly identical to the Xeon, and the Xeon is definitely not worth the extra price for a desktop build. If you have some extra cash, perhaps you could spend it on one of these little beasts :):
