Computer shuts off randomly then turns on but fails

I have a custom built computer and it just shuts down randomly and then stay off for 3-5secs an turns back on then works for 3secs (no display) and back off...
I thought it was the bad ram because I had 3 sticks (2 in pc) and then if my computer shut off like that I would put other stick in there an then it worked(at least I think but it may be that while i switched the ram the too heated component got time too cool if the heat is the problem,also sometimes switching ram sticks didnt work so I bought new patriot viper 8gb and put it in and it was fine until today (1 day after)it shuts down on me again while using C4D and photoshop.I think the problem is either power or heat(aldo I did vacuum the fans..)

I take you mean the psu is old, as the cpu is an 1155 sandybridge so it is not that old.

Do you get a single bios beep when you power the machine on ?

Right now i am thinking power supply, but you can do a few test to confirm.

I never said cpu is old actully its new and its ivy bridge not sandy.
When I normally turn my pc on I have no beeps but when my computer crashes and then back on,when it shuts down the second time its a *beep* *shutdown* not loud not long beep. How can I check my PSU? the cpu is fine i think.. Any reports or tests that can help you let me know.
 
Try removing the motherboard from the case and build it outside on a piece of cardboard and see if it boots up correctly. If so, then we can only assume you have the motherboard grounding out on the case which means you didn't use the brass standoffs or didn't put them in the correct places.

I don't think it's the motherboard grounding out. When I just use my computer for like browsing it never shuts off. But sometimes when I play games or work in Cinema 4D it shuts off. I feel like somethings overheating or there's not enough power...

Please do the following:

Download and install PC Wizard from my sig, run it and go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Copy the text out of that file into this thread.

Also, open the PC and record the exact model and make of the 400W PSU and report that in this thread too.

Im thinking, since you have a issue that is most likely to occur during load, you have a PSU that is rubbish/failing.

We can confirm all this with the information requested above.
 
I guess I missed the part that you have an old 400 watt power supply. What I would do is get a new one, make sure its from a reputable brand. A corsair cx430 would work providing you are only using the video from the onboard cpu.

Yes but in a few months I'm buying MSI gtx 660ti power edition or better so if I'm buying one I'm buying a good one that will support my GPU.
