Epson Printer Problem

Banging head against a wall with this one, wondered if anyone else can help?

Its a Stylus SX130 Epson, basically the print quality is shocking, no matter how many head/nozzle cleans i do. It doesnt recognise the print cartridges, saying they are not genuine and when it does finally recognise them it says they are empty even tho they have just been replaced!!! Its also started to print the wrong colours, for example, today something i printed was supposed to be dark blue, purple, red - instead it all come out a pale blue!

Any ideas, or should i just cut my losses and buy a decent printer (2 years old now).

Cheap copies always cause problems like this and can damage the printer, you may just have been very luck until now.

I would say buy genuine epson cartridges and hopefully it may not have damaged the printer, but with the fact it is a basic and old printer, you could probably buy a new all in one epson printer for not much more than the price of new inks.

From what I understand, most Epsons do not have printheads on the cartridges like, say, HP's do. This means that if you use crappy ink, there's a good chance the printhead is clogged real bad. You can't clean it at home... you'd need to take it in for service, which would most likely cost more than a new printer.
Moral of the story: only use name brand ink in your printer.
