Weird screeching noise when in games

The last couple of weeks i've been getting this weird buzzing/screeching noise in my headset whenever i have it plugged into the front panel of the computer but that noise stopped when i plugged it into the back panel(the "main" sound card).

However now i've been noticing the last couple of days that whenever i'm playing The Sims 3 and i'm in the main menu i get the same buzzing/screeching noise however it's coming directly from the computer(not something i'm hearing through the headset).

I haven't opened the case yet to try to figure out exactly where it's coming from but from what i can hear it sounds like it's coming from the PSU and i really don't know what to do about it.

The weirdest part about it is that it's only hearable when i'm in the main menu and options menu and it disappears as soon as i'm in the actual game.
And kind of the same noise can be heard when i'm playing Black Ops 2 however it's only during rounds and not in the main menu.

Here's a small clip of how it sounds:

Thanks for any help beforehand.

Could not really tell. Sure it isnt a fan kicking in a higher RPM. Might need to just openit up and clean the dust out.

That could very well be the case but i just think it's weird that the pitch/frequency of the noise changes whenever i go into another menu( for example; from main menu to options menu and back)

Iv heard that noise twice

1st - Have you ever pushed the trigger for an electric drill only a bit, you get the same noise

Sounds like one of your fans is struggling to spin

Open ur case make sure nothing is restricting the fans, clean them

2nd - When my xbox remote is plugged in to charge and im using my turtlebeach i get a very similar noise but i dont see how that relates to your pc if its not coming through the speakers

I'm going to in a couple hours however i still find it hard to believe that that is the problem since it's not a constant noise, it's only while im in the main menu in The Sims 3 and during matches in Black Ops 2.

I've also noticed, and this can just be a coincidence, that the noise doesn't happen after i reboot the pc.

Ok. It is not a fan, unless it is screeching all the time.

What is more likely, is that your gpu has a normal or poor quality chokers and they will make that sound, especially if you have a powerful gpu and run an undemanding game. What happens is that such a game will work on something silly like 2000 FPS, and that will make the chockers "screech".

Go to graphical options in your game and enable V-sync. That will limit the framerate to 60 FPS and should eliminate the screeching.

I realize it's been a looong time since i started this thread now but i just tried turning on fraps to see what my fps was and it was way above 2000 and the pitch of the sound did seem to change whenever the fps changed

Since TS3 doesn't have a V-Sync option as far as i'm aware, i'm going to try to turn it on through the nVidia Control Panel and see if that makes any difference.

EDIT:

The problem seems to be solved now that i activated V-Sync. Thank you :D

Nice. Yeah, it was a poor quality choker. Cool you got it solved though :)
