Graphic errors and no clue

Hey guys,
I have a problem and can’t identify its origin, maybe you have an idea?
It started with my monitors turning black for a few second and coming back with the error message:

“Der Anzeigetreiber "NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.65" reagiert nicht mehr und wurde wiederhergestellt" meaning that the NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 331.65 stopped working and has been restored.

This happened occasionally but recently every day. It happens whilst gaming, after the pc is running for some time as well as directly after boot up and system “easy” application such browsing the web.

Reinstalling the driver didn’t solved it so I reinstalled my windows and stuff (this time OS in English so I can deliver them error messages proper..). I flashed my bios and used all the newest drivers. After one day of running the pc the error hasn’t occurred yet, but every time I move a document, program etc. on my desktop it leaves stripes (schlieren) and produces graphic errors.
I did not found a proper solution on the web so I wrote Gigabyte and got the advice to try a bigger PS since mine only provides 46 instead of 60 ampere at +12V.
Since I don’t have a bigger PS and neither a second and bigger system to put in my GPU and test it I’m not sure what to do. Assuming the PS is the problem which one should I go for? How can I figure out if the PS is the problem? I live in Copenhagen so if someone lives close and can help me out for a box of German beer that would be great Otherwise I really appreciate any suggestions…

Ps: I did not OC my system yet, would like to do it but yea should fix the problem first. My GPU temps go up to max 70C and CPU max 60C whilst gaming.

First of all thanks for all the help and comments!
So far so good, day 2 without any black screen and error messages.

Solution: new OS (windows 7 pro), newest driver reinstallation in the fresh system and GPU as the PhysX processor as mentioned by NVX 185. If it the issue occurs again I’ll go for older driver versions from the GPU CD, check cable and monitors.

So far it seems indeed like a buggy NVidia driver. Screw Gigabyte, you guys are the real support team!

I would get a new PSU first. Antec, FSP or Thermaltake make's a good PSU. Being under the required amps would most likely be the culprit. If a new PSU doesn't solve the problem then I would suspect video card.

His corsair 600 watt unit is plenty enough for that 760. Would suspect you have a bad card though.

It's ridiculous Gigabyte would say you need a PSU with 60 amps. 46 is more than enough.

It does sound like a bad card, although I'd try a new cable and monitor before an RMA.

I was experiencing this problem myself. Not a hardware problem at all. It's actually a fairly common issue which points to buggy software in nVidia's newer drivers. I guarantee if you used an older driver, it would be a lot more stable.

Ok anyway, here's the fix:

Go to your nVidia Control Panel -> PhysX Configuration. Then, make sure you select your GPU as the PhysX processor (as opposed to auto-select). It's a bit of a hacky-workaround but it'll reduce your screen blackouts (if not completely stop them). This seems to be the common workaround to the problem by most people experiencing this issue including myself.

Just looked up the amp requirements. 30 amps 500 watt PSU. Gigabyte is pulling your chain. Must be driver or video card.

I'm assuming you've got the latest drivers, if not, upgrade to the latest drivers.

If you have got the latest already, uninstall and reinstall your drivers first - do this in Safe Mode.

Try it for a few days.

If that doesn't work, uninstall your current drivers, find the previous drivers and install those instead (try perhaps installing the ones which came on a CD with your graphics card since they're bound to be older than what you've got now).

Then try that for a few days.

If the problem is fixed, great - wait for the next driver release before you upgrade. If not, it may be hardware problems. Try re-seating the card or try the card in another PC if you can.
