Will this hard drive work with my rig?

My netbook just failed on my so I took it apart. Not sure if the hard drive works or not. It may just be the reason why the netbook stopped working.

Anyways, I took the hard drive out and I'm wondering if it will work in a rig with a more recent motherboard.

The hard drive is a Sata, but it's tiny. I mean the physical size of the thing, and I'm confused about the connectors on it.

I've uploaded some photos.

In this first photo I believe the pins on the far right is the power connector, but what are those other ones?

It's weird. When I opened my netbook the pins on the far right were not attached to anything, but those other wider ones were plugged into a connector type thing that looks like its connected to the motherboard.

Anyways, have a look at the other two photos and if you can answer my questions, that would be great. Thanks.

The pins on the right are typically cable select pins, but in the case of SSD it could be speed selection. You don't have to mess with it. There is no cable that plugs into the pins, there's a jumper.

Edit- I have the SATA Data and SATA power backwards. It's the other way around. Smaller connector is power, not data.

You can plug it into a motherboard with SATA ports on the board since it's a SATA hard drive.

If you're putting it in a desktop, you'll need a 3.5" to 2.5" drive bay adapter - most SSDs come with these (since they're 2.5") but you can find the adapters very cheaply online.

I havent seen jumper pins on storage drives in years. I dont think either one of my western digitals even have them and I got them back in 2007 I believe.

Alright, thanks.

Though I'm now pretty sure that the reason my netbook failed is because that hard drive went bad. Oh well. It was fun taking it out!

SATA hard drives don't need jumper pins. Only IDE ones do.

On SATA the 4 extra pins are for speed selection/ Reduced power spinup/ Spread spectrum. Not cable select like in the photo above.
