Harddrive got messed up?!

Gents/ladyss,

I have a problem.

I have a hp laptop (pavilion DV6) where I had windows 8 installed, but then I installed Linux Ubuntu. Windows was replaced. After a while I wanted to go back to windows, so I made a bootable USB. While having ubuntu on my laptop it was impossible to install windows (I still don't know why).

On youtube I found a video showing how to format the harddrive with linux commands, but this failed. I made a mistake and found out that the harddrive was mounted... in the end when I booted my laptop again, it shows the screen of hp and then a black screen with a cursor in top-left corner. Like everything is erased. All I want now is to fix the harddrive (if broken) and install windows again. Is it different if I would use a Windows CD instead of the usb? (THE USB DOES WORK ON OTHER LAPTOPS).

Please help!
Thx in advance!

How do i start from scratch? I went looking and found out that i could zero out my harddrive, but i have no clue what kind of software I need to do this and how i should do this.

Is there a tuturial somewhere on how to do this? I think i need a bootable cd with software on it that completly erases my harddrive and fixes everthing, so i can install windows again.

Thx in advance!

If you want to go back to windows 8 then most likely you will need to order the recovery cd's for that model of pc.

i managed to zero out my harddrive, now it's completly wiped and i tried to install windows with a bootable cd, i used imgburn to burn the iso on to a cd and at first it worked, it was preparing to install windows when something went wrong. I got this error: 0x80070017

When i did this the harddrive was not partitioned or anything, it was one emty harddrive with no partitions like it used to be. I think my next step is to properly partition the harddrive and then try again with the windows cd.

I will let you guys know, in the meantime.. any suggestions?

thx!

That error is for bad media.

I would suggest redownloading the ISO and re-burning it on the lowest speed possible. Then try again.
