Fractal Design Core 1000
Samsung 224DB 24x DVD Re-Writer
Corsair CX750
1TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003

AMD
AMD FX8320
Cooler Master TX3
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3
Crucial Ballistix Sport Memory 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333

intel
intel i5 4430
Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H
Mushkin Enhanced 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600

AMD can be overclock, intel is not.

If in the very near future, like within a couple months, yes as the 4670k is a little better than a 8320. But for a upgrade more then that, just get the 8320 and make it easier on yourself and get way better performance than the i3. Arma will suck with a i3.

I played arma 3 quite well with an I3 (1155) with my old system. Its a lot less cpu intensive than arma 2 was.

That said i have decided to go straight for the 4670k. I may have to settle for a less capable gpu but i dont mind.

That's a bad idea. Never, ever downgrade a GPU to get a slightly better CPU. The 8320 is a very capable CPU, and its only 15 percent worse then a i5 on average.

PCunicorn, i dont mean to sort of disregard your advice after asking for it but for me getting a better cpu now is more beneficial.

The way games are going cpu power is pretty stangant so if i get a good cpu now it will last. GPU's on the other hand i was going through one a year with my previous system. (granted it went from a hd 3850 - late to the party - to hd 6850 to a hd 7850)

To that end i imagine i will have a new series gpu next year anyway.

Thank you for your advice though and im sure someone with a different mentality would find it useful.

A 8320 will probably last longer than a i5. There was the i7 920 and Thurban X6 CPUs competing a while back iIRC. At the time, the i7 was better. But Noe that games are starting to use more cores, the X6 is moving ahead. This is going to be the same with the 8320 and 4670K.

Seems to me like your a bit of a Intel fanboy. Don't let it blind you.

Do you have any proof of that as from what i have seen the amd bulldozer/piledriver chips fail to match intel on anything. Theyre 8 core units seem especially weak being beaten by the fx6300 in some cases.

The 4670K will be about 8 frames better than a 8320 max. Also, a 6300 being better then a 8320 is complete BS. If the 8320 had one core enabled and the 6300 did too, the 8320 would win. It has a higher IPC.

And though a i5 will win by a small amount, a 8320 and 580 will beat a 4670K and 6850 by a ton.

You obviously haven't looked at many benchmarks. The 4670K gets like 3 more FPS in Arma.

And you pull a couple low resolution benchmarks from Anand Tech and suddenly the 8320 sucks?

The part I don't think you understand is that yes, the 8320 is like 15 percent worse than a 4670, but you save 50 dollars and a 580 will be over 60 percent better than a 6850.

I never said i was going to get a hd 6850. I said i had one in my last system...

And for the price of a decent 970 or 990 amd mobo and the 8320 your looking at the same price of a z87m and i5 4670k.

Really a no brainer.

I forgot about that, there are no decent mATX AM3 boards. So go Inyel. But remember, AMD is very close to Intel. Fanboys will tell you otherwise but fanboys say what makes there company look better.

I am certainly not a fan boy but all things considered amd has lost the edge, they barely fall into the affordable bracket any more and they have been lacking in performance for far too long now.

Theyre gpu's are not included in the above, i love amd gpu's.

They really aren't lacking in performance when you take price into the equation.

You chart doesn't factor in overclock. The AMD chips are overclocked within their life, the intels are not. YOu overclock any of those intel chips and they will rape the AMD chip hands down.

No, they really arent. Most 8320 chips can get a 500 to 700 MHz OC on air. And being Haswell gets hot, thy actually have similar OC performance.

And why does this matter in this thread? And besides a 4770K is $150 more than a 8320.

And
Crysis3.png

In some games the 9590 won, in Crysis 3 the 4960X won

That's a 4960X which will be significantly better than a 4770K at 4.5 GHz. The 9590 is something AMD makes and doesn't look to me like a 4770K comes close to raping it.
