I bought this desktop from some guy second hand a few months ago, while the video card is excellent the cpu is dreadful and is the obvious weak-point of my setup(found it on Amazon for $3),I am pretty sure the motherboard is pretty low end too but I am not sure whether I should replace that.I had been considering buying this cpu: http://tinyurl.com/lzn2rkt
as It fits my budget well and is supposed to be very good for its price.
I am not sure whether this will cause problems tough as I currently have an
Intel cpu and have heard that they have different sockets to AMD.
Here are my specs:

So will everything be compatible,or will I need a new motherboard with new sockets,or would I be better of buying another intel processor(less than €100)
I really am clueless so please try to explain in plain English or I may get confused.
Thank You!:D

You currently have an older Pentium-based MoBo; the CPU you linked to is AMD, and is not compatible. If the system you have now works and you just want a bit of a speed boost, then upgrading your CPU could be an option.

Did a quick search... You have an Intel Socket 775 MoBo that is compatible with 45nm Intel CPU's, including: Core2Duo and Core2Quad. You could replace your slower dual-core and with a compatible faster quad-core and see a boost in speed. Probably find one on Ebay for cheap.

Would it be as good as the AMD one that I was planning to get?

Honestly couldn't tell you - I'm an Intel guy, one of the AMD folks would know a lot more than I on a direct comparison. Some of those Core2Quads from a years ago really ripped though - great CPUs that definitely held their own.

Do you think my motherboard needs updating since I use this PC for gaming?

Newer games? Absolutely.

I'm actually on my way out to run some errands, but post a budget for what you want to spend and some of the gamers will most-likely spam this Thread with tons of ideas for you. :P They'll make sure you get something you'll be happy with.

Well to be honest I am wondering if there are any competitively priced Intel cpus compatible with my mobo or if I am better of to stick with the one I have or buy a new mobo I can only spend €100 for them together or just one but desperately need an upgrade.Could I just buy a €100 cpu and then cheap it out to extreme on the mobo, could I get a compatible AM3 one for like €15?

If it's DDR3 then yes, but make sure it's fast. If it's 1066MHz or 1333MHz, then I'd buy new 1866MHz RAM for your new board.
