RAM Specs different

I recently bought a Lenovo G500 during this years' Black Friday sales. I am looking to upgrade the RAM but the manufactorers specs online whenever I look tell me that the max supported RAM is 8Gb of DDR3 204 pin 1600MHz. BUT when I open the utility that came on the computer (Lenovo Solution Center) it is telling me that the max supported is 16Gb. It came with 4Gb installed in 1 of the 2 slots.

Which one do I believe or go by. I want to max out the RAM. Also is it better to go with 2 equal sticks (one for each slot) or 1 stick that will be the max.

There is also a slight difference in the Hard Drives in mine and in some of the others online. Mine is 1Tb and others only show a 500Gb.

I can give you the model # but other than that, all I know is that it is the G500

The model # is CB03100506

It also lists a model name which is 20236

it has the i5 processor

with Windows 8.1

Lenovo's website has the max at 8GB along with a few other websites.

Out of 6 websites, only 1 had a max of 16GB. If you could borrow RAM, or buy something cheap to test it out, I would.

TLDR: Max could be 16GB. 8GB is the safest bet.

Ok thanks.

That is what I found too except I didn't find one that listed the max at 16Gb. All of them I looked at said 8Gb was the max. I was planning on ordering a single 4Gb stick to fill up both slots and max it out. Then I got to playing around on the Lenovo Solution Center because I am still learning this computer and trying to figure it and this new Windows 8 out.

I don't know anyone with any Laptop RAM so I guess I will just go with my original plan and order the 4Gb stick to go with the one that is there.

It has been a while since I built my last computer and I don't remember if it is ok to mix the brands of RAM.

Do you think it would be a good idea to just order a set of 4Gb sticks to give me the 8Gb so they will be the same brand.

Lenovo's website actually says 16GB...

You can mix brands but if one of the stick is slower than the other, the speed will be the one of the slower. I would buy two sticks of 8GB in case you need to replace one of them later on, it'll be less expansive than one 16GB. :)

The only problem I see being that it was a black friday edition is that its very possible that they dummied down the specs of it to keep the price down. I just got done working on a lenovo laptop that was $199 a few years ago. Come to find out, it only has one speaker and one memory slot and only a 1.3 ghz cpu. It only came with 2gb of memory, I had to remove the 2gb and put in a 4gb. It definately improved speed but the 1.3 ghz cpu is still lagging a little.

I was afraid of that too but I have looked into mine and it is actually a little better than I anticipated.

here are some of the specs on it:
Intel Core i5 3rd Generation 2.6G
4Gb DDR3 RAM (Max ???)(that is what I am trying to find out)
2 RAM slots
Windows 8
1Tb Hard Drive
