GPU roars loudly

Hello!

So as long as I can remember, the fan in my GPU (at least I think it is) "roars" very loudly every so often. Basically it will be at a certain volume, then all of a sudden the fan will accelerate and go really loud for 1-2 seconds. Hopefully you know what I mean.

Is there any way to stop this?

Thanks!

But seriously I'd try giving the GPU fan a clean out with some compressed air, update to the most recent drivers and try checking out your temps with speedfan.

Does this only happen when performing system intensive tasks?

I shall clean the GPU after I'm done using the computer, I have the latest driver.

Here were my temps, keep in mind I was gaming and rendering a video when I did this: http://gyazo.com/74e6f8a658ce2b1e1ba074f3fe5920b9

My GPU "roars" (I THINK it's my GPU) even when I'm not doing anything intense, but it is possible it does it less often.

My PC in general is too loud, I might just hand it to the local store and say "Make it quiet and I'll pay you"

What the hell happened to these forums? No one replies to anything anymore.

Anyone know a good computer forum where I could get some help?

TBH if you want really fast answers then go to a site like tomshardware or LinusTechTips

But anyway, if you manually control the fan speeds the card may speed up if its too hot. You can try seeing if it does that when it under automatic fan control.

Dude, don't send people away from the forum, even if you think this is accurate its very bloody rude for Ian and others like myself that spend a lot of time here helping.

The fan will speed up at certain temperatures. The threshold it speeds up and the response it makes is customisable using MSI Afterburner. Go into the fan customisation section, tell it when to speed up and how it ramps up.

At the same time ensure you have the latest graphics driver and motherboard bios to ensure voltages (the thing that determines what the temps are), and other settings are correct. Then check with your card's manuafacturer that there is no new card BIOS. I have seen in the past, thermal changes implemented via a new bios.

After that, buy yourself a can of compressed air, remove the card, remove the cooler and replace thermal paste and blow out any dust from fan.

Having cleaned, replaced the thermal paste, updated the drivers, and used control programs you should find it works better either way.

Yeah really.

The dude post was answered. Said he would try cleaning after he got through using it. Then said he would just take it to a repair shop. "Make it quiet and I'll pay you" Then comes back 4 days later and asked what happen to the forums.

So what your saying is: even though you have accurate and relevant information to offer in relation to someones query.. Only offer it if it suits your and your organisations interests?

Read your last post man, you said you will clean it, we never heard if cleaning it helped. Then you said you will just take it to the store, it sounds like you had your mind made up. We were waiting to hear back from your findings after cleaning your GPU before suggesting anything else.

My apologies, I didn't make myself very clear. When I said that I meant to say that that is what I would do as a last resort, and I still expected some more suggestions. Sorry I didn't make myself clear :(

I haven't actually cleaned it yet, I bought a pressurised air duster but sometimes the air it emits is wet, so I might try and buy another one.

Say if I just wanted to make my PC quiet by buying new hardware, what CPU and system fans should I get?

Thanks :)

No im saying dont be bloody lazy, extract the Actual LINK or information rather than sending someone to simply another forum.

Make sure you use the compressed air ONLY in an upright position. Using it at an angle or upside down will cause the contents to come out in a liquid form.

Sorry I haven't checked back here in a while.

So upon further inspection, I've noticed it's actually my Power Supply that is extremely loud and "roars" every couple of minutes. For some reason a friend told me it was probably the GPU, and I always assumed it was.

My power supply is a Corsair GS600 (600W). Is there anyway to make it quieter, or should I just buy a new PSU?

Thanks!

EDIT: So should this get moved into the Power Supply section now? :P

Shut the system down and take a can of compressed air and blow out the power supply, it just may be dirty. How old is the unit?

Good idea, I'll do that as soon as I turn my PC off for the day.

It's just over a year old.

Okay so I've cleaned my PSU (and my PC generally) with the compressed air, to be honest I'm not sure how much the compressed air actually shifts the dust, it doesn't seem very powerful. I might try with my dad's air machine thing on a low power.

But yeah, my PC is still quite loud and the PSU does "roar" every so often.

Any other ideas?

Already answered mate.
