Anti Virus AVG 2009 Vs Security essential or other! Which is better??

Hi,
Would anybody give me suggestion about what should i install on my home PC, I have anti virus AVG 09 sits on my desk vs free software call: security essential? Which one is better? This PC has been attacked by viruses, malware and many pop up, i ended up wiped everything out and restored to the factory default. Please let me know if there is any other best free anti virus out there. Any suggesting would be very much appreciated.
 
When you download it, just select the free basic version.

No, I'm gonna suggest a product I have no experience with :rolleyes:
 
Definitely use Avast (been using it for seven years now). Also keep in mind that no Anti-virus will keep you 100% safe from malwares, you have to use some comon sense too. Don't go on weird websites, be careful when going on adult websites (if you do) and torrents/illegal downloading can bring viruses.
 
AVG detection rating has not been the highest lately so like the rest I do use Avast, once installed if you want the active protection just go with the security edition which if you go into the Avast store which is located in the Avast software one PC is only $19.99 or $29.99 for three PC's for a one year subscription. The security edition provides additional firewall which plays nice with the Windows firewall and a add-on for the web browser to help block tracking.

If just wanting the free version it is still better then AVG.
 
Thanks for everyone for your suggestion, i really appreciated. I decided to go with Avast and got it installed now, just the free trial to see how that go.
