Could someone explain why minecraft runs on like 20 fps at 1080p on my gaming rig (top one with the i7)? The only thing I have changed is that now it has one 480 instead of 2 in sli... I just don't get it.

There's a lot of factors...

Let me try and list fixes off the top of my head:

- Switch cards
- Reinstall MC/Java
- Close out all programs
- Change graphics settings

MOST IMPORTANT! Get Optifine.. It helps render worlds out faster and increase your FPS...

Another thing: Your CPU or RAM.. It's the problem for my "dinosaur"..

But still... lots of factors and for me, not enough info to pinpoint the problem..

Yeah I have considered those but the problem is that my gaming rig is not bad at all. I mean I would expect that something that maxes out battlefield 3 can play minecraft at normal settings with no shader mods. It worked before, I wonder if it's the 1.7.5 update that messed minecraft up. I remember getting 130fps no problem on the highest settings (which still look crap) and now it gets 10fps on low. Something must be wrong cause that just doesn't make sense....

You need to allocate more RAM to Java. The exact same thing was happening to me a while back. I can't tell you exactly how to do it right now, but I'm sure that's what needs to be done. It's a common thing.

I just had this problem today. I'm running a 770, and was getting 35FPS. It seemed to of happened after installing Forge, which may or may not be the issue for you, but either way I still reccomend doing this:

Use the Run tool in Windows, and type in %appdata% , then delete .minecraft, but remember to back up the save folder. Now, run the launcher again. It will reinstall Minecraft.

Denther, in op he says after getting rid of the 2nd card. Thanatos, I doubt memory is the problem, as it was running fine before. However, just in case the reinstall doesn't work, be sure to try the steps in the link, SpringWater.

I will thanks. It would seem that it started happening to me after getting optifine which is very weird...

Right you are. Read that backwards.

Just a fresh reinstall of Minecraft, Java, and all your mods/Optifine/Forge/whatever else would be a good idea.

I tried the things, none of them helped... weird. Maybe it's just that minecraft got way more demanding lately :( Gotta enjoy those 20fps

Also I just purchased RUST and it runs at 10 fps, would it be a good idea to roll back to some 2012 driver? Cause that's what I had before and everything was fine, it seems like the new drivers just kill the card...

Personally if I was having all these issues I'd just reinstall windows, but if your not comfortable with that, uninstall the drivers and clean up with Driver Sweeper, and reinstall the last working drivers, and see if that helps.

Don't rollback that far to 2012. Just download the driver version that you were using before this update.

He said the 2012 driver was the one he was using before...

I'll try rolling back. Interesting fact, I have noticed that heaven benchmark runs at 30fps at max settings, so could it be that my good old 480 is not enough for RUST and minecraft?

A 480 should run Minecraft more than fine.

Rust should be fine also. You've got a different issue.

You're not overheating are you?

I considered that, but no. I just put in my second 480 and... fps in RUST jumps up to 50 from 10. Same with minecraft. Logic? I don't think so, but I'm glad it at least works in SLI. Thanks for all the help, I think I'll just lave the rig in SLI mode cause that seems to be the only way.
