Hi guys, i'll get straight to the problem; every time i load up my computer into windows it locks up multiple times and freezes for a few seconds before becoming free again with the error message "The Display Driver has stopped working but has recovered" I have tried completely uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling different ones including 14.3,14.1,13.10,13.9 versions but it still does the same :/ Btw im running two XFX 6870s in crossfire and also they're different cards as one is 2Gb and the other is a 1gb and i have the 2gb one in the first pci slot, could this be the problem? When the driver crashes i witness the clock speed and memory clock of my 2gb graphics card (the one which provides my display) maxing out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Guys!

Ok, this could be many things. Without a good understanding of the hardware, we cannot help.

Please download PC Wizard from my sig, install it, go to FILE, SAVE AS and click OK. Copy the text out of that file into this thread.

THEN IMPORTANTLY, remove the side of your computer, and record the model and make of your power supply unit. The label will look similar to this:

If you have a laptop, don't worry about this.

As stated, PSU specs would help.

Do you get this when using each card by itself? A lot of times this behavior is for some sort of failing hardware.

One thing, your board doesn't support the FX 9370. You need atleast the GA-990FXA-UD3 Rev 4.0

Nice catch buddy. But I would have thought that pc wizard wouldn't be able to detect the correct processor if the board didn't support it?

It probably will. The bios probably does too. It could be since there is no bios update for it. The bios doesn't know what the default voltage or turbo and cool & quiet defaults are. Causing it to lock up. I guess you could go into the bios and disable the above and set the MHz and voltage manually. Don't know why they don't do a update for the 970A-UD3P and 970A-UD3, both have a 8+2 power phase and Low RDS(on) mosfets. They would have no problem.

This is a GPU problem though? nothing to do with the processor

Have you tried what I said about setting the CPUs MHz and voltage manually? I guess you could try putting the 1gb card in the top main slot and see if it makes a difference. But my guess is your bios doesn't know what the processors default settings are, causing it to lock up. Which can cause drivers errors of what ever is running..

As said above, the first thing I would do is remove the second card and see if the problem persists. It might be to do with your CPU settings as others have said or it could be a driver issue.

Have you tried removing your drivers and installing the latest ones?

1. Download the latest Catalyst Drivers for your 6870 HERE.
2. Download Display Driver Uninstaller from HERE (formally 'Driver Sweeper') and run the file extractor to extract the files.
3. Boot into Safe Mode and run DDU to completely remove your existing drivers. If you don't run DDU in Safe Mode, then it will ask if you want to reboot into Safe Mode and run it.
4. Reboot.
5. Install the latest Catalyst Driver which you downloaded earlier.

DDU works really well. My Catalyst Drivers got screwed up the other night and I managed to successfully use DDU to remove the screwed up ones and replace them with a fresh install. I wasn't having the same problem as you're having, in fact for me Catalyst Control Centre wasn't even opening, but it's all working now.

Those are probably the first things I would do.

If problems persist I would then assume that another piece of hardware is at fault. Either the PSU or the CPU, as mentioned by others.

Good luck. :good:

Hi guys, I took both video cards out and put them in individually and it still crashed and i know for sure that the 1gb card works fine so i have a feeling it mus be the motherboard's incompatibility with the processor that's causing this problem. Also, i've already spent many hours uninstalling and reinstalling the video drivers so it's definitely no that lol

Thanks Anyway Guys!

What do you think controls everything else in the computer?

Hi, im back again; i bought a completely new motherboard and the gpu is still peaking on both gpus even when they're in separately and i know for a fact that at least on of them works.

PLEASE HELP!! :(
