Then it wouldn't change a thing really. As soon as they're done with Update 1, they'll update to the next security updates. Even if it takes a lot of time to get to update 1 they won't be able to update until it is done anyway... If that makes sense...

My point is they need to go through all updates and put them through a test period before they implement them throughout the company is what I was getting at.

Travis is exactly right. You need to remember these aren't individual users who can update their computers themselves, this is a major update. Look at previous service packs, an IT department can't roll out a major update to all computers instantly. Months or even years go by before they may be updated.

Yeah I was saying about this in the other thread about Windows 8.1 Update 1.

Microsoft were saying this from the day 8.1 Update 1 was released (which was last week).

Yeah I think somebody said they had a problem with not getting all the new options when you right click a tile so I posted a screenshot of what I get (or what you *should* get) when you now right click a title.

Microsoft should just make a lot of updates and other fixes and then just put all that together in one service pack which can be easily downloaded as offline installer like they did with XP SP1,SP2 and SP3.
Once the users or companies or whoever downloads that service pack offline installer,they can easily and fast make a copy of it on all their computers and install it right away.
Definetely a lot better than downloading and installing update by update ONLINE and ESPECIALLY if their internet connection is slow or is giving them a lot of problems such as connection termination in the middle of the download...and it does happen a lot...and that takes a lot of unneccessary time.

automatic updates just did it for me, not asking, as i requested, no issues, just done. thats how it should be.

I don't see how it is to be honest,Why anyone would choose NOT to install the latest updates is beyond me (unless of course it breaks something/causes problems).

What i would like to know,How do you know if update 1 has been installed or not?..it doesn't say in "This pc" properties.

I guess when you try to install the latest updates,it will tell you you can't since you don't have Update 1 installed first lol.

You can search for installed updates. I think it is KB2919355. It took me a few days for Windows to find the update after upgrading to 8.1. There area also Search and Power icons next to your user name on the start screen.

Stars, Win 8.1 is very very different to XP, so guessing isn't helpful. As said above, you get a power and close buttons, but also it boots into desktop rather than Metro. There is no Update 1 in the properties, nor is it in Uninstall Programs (what it is called now).

I had to change it in mine. Either way, 8.1 Update 1 works well for me. I haven't had any complaints in the office about it either. Just pushed Update 1 out to the clients that were running 8.1.

Yes I know that it's called "Uninstall Programs".
I used Windows 8 many times you know?
I mainly used it to test the software I am working on to make sure that it works well on Windows 8.1 as well as on all other Windows systems starting from Windows 98 first edition.
Just because XP is my favorite OS does not mean I do not use other Windows systems as well.

By the way...I just tested the software on Windows 7 today as well and as expected it works perfect!
I have to admit one thing though...making software with such a good compatibility level is really a nightmare sometimes since it takes so much freaking time...AND it's driving me crazy sometimes lol!
My life would be so much easier if I have to make it to work just on one Windows platform...Too bad that's not the case...,but it MUST be compatible with Windows 98 and all later Windows versions all the way to Windows 8.1...
