Hi I have a Lenovo IBM Thinkpad R51 (1829) running XP, still running strong!!. However with Microsoft withdrawal of support for simply their best software :)

I am in a fix as with what to do. I love the laptop and would hate throwing it out, As it works

But I want to change the operating system, maybe a linux system.

Or maybe with a faff Windows 7....

So what do you reckon... is best

I quite liked the Ubuntu I played with my other machine... Well that was before the HHD crashed (now fixed)

That laptop "Dell" also running "XP" is getting an upgrade to "7"

Windows 7 is a better OS than XP by far in every single measure. If your laptop can run it and you don't wont to stick with an unsupported OS and continue to use the laptop then install Win 7. Pretty simple.

Thank you Monsieur..... As I'm using both OS's I prefer XP to 7

However of the two XP laptops The DELL will be an easy conversion the Lenovo a difficult conversion mind you the DELL is newer.

And I was asking for advice on the nightmare machine .....What do you think of Linux????
