PS3 Hardwired to Wireless Router but getting Errors -PLZ HELP! Detailed Info Supplied

Hi, I am having some issues with my current router setup. I used to have ATT (6Mbps service) as my ISP and I would do a decent amount of gaming on my PS3. I didn’t have any issues with it at all and I was able to directly connect my PS3 to ATT’s modem since it had multiple ports. My ATT contract expired, and so I got a new ISP (Charter Communications with their 30Mbps service) and thus a new modem (made by Arris and model number is TM822A) and a new, but used, wireless router (a Belkin model number F5D7234-4 V5) that I bought separately. I am currently using 2 laptops, 1 Roku, and 1 Ipad that all connect wirelessly to my router. The modem supplied by Charter only has one port to connect via Ethernet, so I have to use that port for my attached wireless router. I then attached my wireless router via Ethernet to my PS3 so I would avoid interference when gaming. I am only using Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables (I never play games wirelessly, I only play hardwired so keep that in mind). I noticed when I am gaming, I am having more issues finding lobbies with other players in them. The game will often put me in sessions that are empty. This rarely happened before when I had ATT. I also noticed that when I did find game sessions with other players, many times the other players would disappear from my session or I would get booted due to “an unknown network connection.” I did a connection test on my PS3 and a few times it would report decent download/upload speeds, but 90% of the time it is not able to report it and will give me an error message of, “The router in use may not support IP fragments, and the communication features of some games may be restricted. For details, contact the router manufacturer.” I am going to contact Belkin as well. I looked up some stuff online and many people said to simply reset the router and create a new SSID and password for it. I did that and it is still having this problem. To test to see if my router was the issue, I tried connecting the PS3 directly to the Charter cable modem via Ethernet (I had to disconnect my wireless router to do so) and played for an hour and I didn’t have any issues. I may have to do further testing, but at this time it seems likely the problem is not with my ISP but with my wireless router since it worked fine for that hour I played directly connected to the modem. I was thinking of upgrading to an inexpensive “N” wireless router anyways so maybe just getting a new router would fix it. I was thinking of getting a Belkin N150 or N300 type router. The one I am using now is a G. So I guess my questions are… if I upgrade my router to any N150 or N300 will that fix my issue? If not, then what should I do? Are there other inexpensive alternatives to fix this issue? I don’t know anything about networking so I appreciate any help to resolve this issue.

Thanks for the reply mate, I looked at that router and it looks like a great one. I always thought Belkin was good because my parents have had one a Belkin (N150) for so long without any issues so I assumed they made good routers. Why are their routers considered poor? And I'm assuming you feel ASUS makes better routers in general? I'm looking for one on a budget though. How about the ASUS RT-N10P:

You think this one is better than a Belkin N150? The Asus N150 seems to have great reviews and it is way cheaper too.

As far as I'm concerned, anything is better then a belkin. That router does have some bad reviews, about 1 in every 5 is bad. I have no experience with that one. I do have the router I linked you to and its a great router.

Awesome, I'll just get an Asus. I'll try my luck with the cheaper one first. If it gives me any issues then I'll just get the more expensive one you have. I'm just looking for an inexpensive one right now. Thanks so much bud.

^ agreed. Generally cheap components, underpowered hardware, poor firmware.

Seems more like a upnp type of issue, you could try updating the firmware if there's a newer version but I'd probably throw that router in the garbage even if you weren't having noticeable issues.

I'm glad I know this now, I'll try to avoid Belkin routers in the future unless they improve. I am still looking for an inexpensive wireless router since the I just missed a deal on a cheaper Asus. I've found some deals on Netgears, At&T, Tenda, Cisco, Linksys, etc. but don't know which companies are good/better/best/worst. I found a deal on a Netgear router locally. It is used, but it is only $15 and it is model number WNR-3500 N300. However it doesn't come with a CD so that may be annoying to deal with. And I don't know if Netgears are good or not.

Are there certain brands as a whole that you guys feel tend to be better?
