100% disk usage win8.1

Hi..
I've seen this problem pop up alot on windows 8 after searching for solutions, but cant seem to find the right one..

So, I bought a laptop for because of studies mostly, but one I could use all around. So I bought a HP that wasnt too shabby to play games etc. For some stupid reason I opted for win8... again.. stupid..
Right away the computer seemed slow sometimes for no apparent reason, and I just downloaded the usual stuff: antivirus, malwarebytes and then spotify etc. cant possibly have gotten anything bad yet.

BUT, I noticed the task manager that the disk always was at 100% and I couldnt figure out why, because there was nothing there to use it.. So I checked resources that were being used, and somehow the different processes stack up, like 30-40 or more of svchost.exe, system, and sometimes chrome and programs like matlab.exe, and it all seemed random.
Is there something terribly wrong with windows 8 that gives it wrong signals about processes and starts multiple of them because it thinks nothing is running or something?? Im sorry it got long, im frustrated about it.. Anyone know about a fix? The reading is around 8k ms constantly sometimes.

I can add specs and pictures, but the specs should really not be the problem.

If you can post screen shots of task manager with highest cpu usage at the top, that would be best.

Here, hope this helps. As you can see in the second picture there is a lot to scroll down, but the programs running are all identical (ex: 50x system.exe) and they are refreshing all the time, like some quit and new ones open.

Downloader.exe belongs to bitdefender. I would also suspect the system files also belong to bitdefender. You can drag the slider bar to the right to see what the program they belong to. All I can see is c:\pr. So its some program utilizing it. Did you just install bitdefender recently? May be an issue with the program.

Why is ~1MB/s read and 5.3MB/s write maxing your disk IO? What kind of disk do you have? Is it running in PIO mode or something goofy?

HGST HTS541010A9E680 as far as I can tell, but the computer is brand new, so I dont see how that could be a problem. Dont know what PIO mode is though. I dont know much about computers :)

Try uninstalling bit defender and see if things get better. Did you drag the slider to the right to see what program is using the system? See the image below where I circled, click and drag the slider to the right so the file path extends so you can see what program is using up "system"

Even at 5400RPM (your travelstar is a 5400) 5MB/s shouldn't be your drives max speed. If you go into device manager and check your IDE channels make sure they are all set to DMA
