Ram Question. I want to add more ram.

Hi, I have an Asus P6X58D-E motherboard and currently use this Gskill 3x 2GB ram. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231225

I would like to add another 6GB I guess. Can I just buy any DDR3 dual channel or triple channel and add to it?

According to the documentation, yes you can add 3 more 2GB modules to bring it up to 12GB total. I would buy the same memory you have now.

thanks. but i can also just add any single and dual channel to the existing 6gb as long as it says ddr3 right?

Since the original ram is still available, I highly suggest getting another set of the same as you won't have any compatibility issues.

Yes, but if you get slower speed memory you will reduce the memory performance as your current memory will match the new speed if it's lower. Also, if you only get one or two modules, you will reduce your current triple-channel performance to single or dual channel.
