List of AMD gpu's in order?

Could someone write me a list of the AMD Radeon GPU series in order? My friend was able to tell me the about the Nvidia GeForce's:
  • GeForce 100 series
  • GeForce 200 series
  • GeForce 500 series
  • GeForce 600 series
  • GeForce 700 series
  • GeForce TITAN series
  • Geforce 900 series

but he didn't really know anything about AMD so I have no idea what is recent or good. Please note I only care about the desktop GPU's, none of those laptop things.

Not sure of all of them, but I know

R7 250x
R7 260(x)
R9 270(x)
R9 280(x)
R9 290(x)

There are also some versions with a string of numbers lile the 7790, but they are old and somewhat outdated at this point. Also, a new 300 series is coming soon
 
Depending on your budget then you are only going to consider the R7 or R9 series for AMD and then 900 series from Nvidia. What is your budget?
 
Don't think I would call the 7000 series old and out dated at this point. Really the R series are nothing but updated versions of the 7000 series.

Budget isn't really a factor here. I just need to know the different series'. Does anyone know what was before the R7 and R9 series?
 
Before Rx 200 there was the 8000-series, then before that the 7000 and so on. No idea how the cards within the series compare, though. I've got a 4670 and I haven't really paid any attention since I bought it.

The 7000 series. From the HD 7350 all the way to the HD 7990.

Pretty sure the 8000 series were just OEM cards, renamed 7000 series cards.
